He said what?

When I was in senior year of high school. We all had to visit the career councillor to discuss what we were going to do after school. The majority of my grade were going to university but weren’t really sure what they wanted to do. I knew I was not going to university because I had no idea what I wanted to do there. But there was this great push to have everyone go.
So I went in for my chat and you can imagine when I said I wanted to be a contemporary dancer my career councillor who had never seen me dance and was not aware of my dance history said. “You seem like you would have to lose 10 kilograms to be thin enough.” That was the first shock. Honestly, I had never in my dance life been told to lose weight for dance. I was already very healthy thin.
He then went on to say that he went to a contemporary dance event and it was quite weird.
I didn’t realise at the time but even though this man who had no clue about my strength in dance or my passion for it or even the major successes I had had with it, I let him dictate my future.
And now at 40 years old, I am ready to take back what is my future. It doesn’t matter I am 40. I know if I don’t do this when I am 80, it will be the biggest regret of my life.
