What it’s like learning a new dance

So I love choreography and dance and decided if I am going to go down the track of contemporary dance, I should choreograph some dances now.
So I did, I choreographed three contemporary dances at one minute long.
Why one minute?
Well one minute is a YouTube short’s maximum viewing time. (Although this is changing to three minutes). One minute also shows enough of the song to showcase some good dance moves and if anything, if you only have one minute to showcase your dance moves, you will put your best dance moves out there.
Now choreographing a dance is sort of easy for me. But I hadn’t done it in a few years. So I did no more than three and three one minute dances probably took me thirty minutes to create.
Now for the actual practicing. I spent about three minutes warming up and then I spent about ten minutes practicing just one song’s one minute dance. So roughly ten times.
I started by holding my notebook with my choreography in my hand and stepped out each movement with the music. Timing is critical in this song.
Once I felt confident enough to know all the dance moves, I changed some of the choreography to make the dance stand out even more.
And then I had a few more practice runs. It definitely isn’t perfected but if I practice it every week, even as part of a warm up, it will help me memorise it and make it awesome when I decide to perform it.
