Open to many dance styles
I’ve been so focussed on one dance style, contemporary as my come back but I look at hip hop and think but I also love hip hop.
So instead of focussing on one type of dance, I am going to give all the dancing styles I feel comfortable with a go.
I mean, why not?
Life is short.
Why limit myself to one type of style of dance?
Yes, people tend to like to watch the one style that they love. However, if I can and want to dance other styles so I don’t get bored, than I will.
This really opens up the choreography. I have different moves for different styles so this just makes sense. So instead of just focusing on contemporary, I will also dance pop, hip hop and whatever else that I want.
Dancing is not just about me though. Of course, I love being the entertainer. I want the audience to have a good time and go, “Wow, that was a cool dance or awesome dance move.”
Because performing is so much fun! Dancing is for me but the performance is for you. I can dance to my favourite music (well not all of it, I will try and keep it PG). I can dance excelling and pushing my body to dance different tricks and moves. Dancing is always a way to progress and challenge oneself to try something harder and even more awesome. I get to also wear what I want to wear. Dance has evolved.
When I used to dance as a child, sometimes we would get a cool costume, like a ballet tutu or a cool hip costume. Other times, the costumes were less than desirable. And all home sewn by the parents following the design of the dance teacher. I can still remember really just not fashionable dance costumes that I had to wear. But now I am an adult, I can wear what I want to wear.
There are no expectations. I bring the level of entertainment and it’s up to me how high of a level I want it to be. Obviously, I want it to be awesome. It can be so simple. Just an empty space, not even a full room, with the light on and a video camera (aka mobile) on. Or I can add lighting, make the space bigger, wear a cool outfit and turn up the music and dance.
And I can change the set up, location and outfit any time I want. This is what I call freedom. Freedom to dance, entertain and perform and design the space however I like, including being bold in what I wear.
Of course there is the fear element. The potential threat of judgement. But who really cares? If you don’t like my videos, don’t watch them, it’s that easy.
But if you do actually like my dance videos, then subscribe and support me. But I know you are wondering, where are these videos. Well this the prep stage. I’m just prepping. I want to lose some weight and get back into dancing a lot before I start videoing.
I have already started choreographing to dances, which only adds to the fun! I have still got it, which is a confidence boost to me.
Have you not danced in awhile but want to?
