It’s hard to make time to dance
If you are new to the dance journey, like every new hobby or sport or in this case, art. It’s important to find regular time to dance.
Currently, I have bought a twelve month subscription to online classes. I won’t say the name yet until I feel confident I have completed quite a few of the classes to comment if it is a good site to go or not. But with online classes, you can literally dance at any time and learn new moves.
A long time ago, I saw the benefits of online classes and produced my own! But then with lots of other life distractions I let it go. But yes, the benefits to online classes compared to a set class is, you can literally dance anywhere, in your room, in your yard at the beach, wherever. You pay a set fee and you can budget for that. For the online class subscription I paid for was $150 AUD for 12 months, that is about $2.80 for one class a week. That’s a lot cheaper than going somewhere and paying around $30 a class a week.
Also, with the subscription there is no limit to the amount of classes I can do in a week. I also can literally jump out of bed in my pyjamas and do a ballet core workout before I start the day.
I also don’t have to travel anywhere and waste time trying to find a car park to get to class.
The downside to online classes is you don’t get critiqued. In face to face classes, your teacher or coach may come round and fix up your technique. At home, you are just assuming everything is fine.
You also get a social aspect and can make friends with other dancers when you go face to face.
The also downside, is because you can literally dance anytime, I tend to not schedule time for my online dance classes. Nothing is set and life takes over and I run out of time or energy to dance. Obviously this is an easy fix once you are aware of it.
Make a schedule as if you were going to the gym or doing a workout or sport and come each day ready to dance at the day and time you selected. You can start with thirty minutes to an hour one day a week, to then increase to two times a week, then three and so on! Have a calendar if you have to. And then your body will be craving to dance and reminding you if you miss a day, that you need to get back onto schedule.
Also, just because you are at home dancing. This is scheduled time for you. So if someone asks you to do something or go somewhere, you can just say, “Sorry I am currently at dance class.” And no one will be the wiser that you are still at home.
Dance is about discipline and routine derives from discipline.
Also you can mix it up, you can still go to face to face dance classes and do online classes in between. Just remember to give yourself the time to dance. That is the difference from seeing you reach your dancing goals or not reaching them. Having a routine is everything.
