Can I dance by myself?

Of course you can dance by yourself and I highly recommend it. Why? Because this is where you grow, you let loose and you strengthen and get more flexible.

When I was young before school, I would do a list of exercises crunches, core exercises with floor work for about thirty minutes and then I would dance for thirty to sixty minutes. This kept me in great shape!

I prided myself on dancing in a small space. Basically didn’t move past a shuffle of feet and danced my heart out with full blown energy.

I worked on my core exercises that gave me confidence in my body. Every day.

Now, I have an online dance class program but I rarely use it because I would much prefer to just dance in my home in a small space and just dance.

It’s freeing.

I don’t have to worry if I accidentally slip with my socks on. Or if I realise the dance move was a bit much and now I can’t stop puffing. Who cares?

And you know what I am a better dancer for it. Because I dance and just give it my all so when people do see me dance, if like ever, lol, then I know they will be like, “Wow, she can dance”.

I used to even have my own YouTube channel and posted dance videos of me just turning on the music and freestyle dancing. I loved those videos probably more than anyone. Because I had fun! I love performing so it’s in my blood to want to perform and dream of performing.

And I realised if I want to get serious in my dancing, I need to not just freestyle dance, I need to work on strengthening my core again as well as rebuild my flexibility. After doing aerials, I have definitely proved to myself that I can be flexible. I also need to work on holding my balance on toes because for contemporary dance I love to hold dance moves on my toes. All these things I need to continually work on to be better.

That’s what most dancers strive for, to always be better. We never succeed. But we always try!! And you know what we do get better. Every time we get up and dance, whether in the home or out with friends. As long as we make a habit.

So don’t be afraid to dance. The best place to dance is at home, so you are alone and you don’t have to worry about people watching you. Especially if you are new to dance.

You are also building the stamina your body needs so you can dance four hours with full energy if you wanted. You might be like, why would I dance for four hours. Well, why not?

Dancing is fun! If you let it be! Don’t take it too seriously. Just move your body to the music you enjoy dancing too. And if you don’t know what type of music you like dancing too, then dance to what you like listening too.

Sometimes, when I am walking with headphones playing music, I choreograph in my head, dance moves that would fit that music.
